Can Copper Kill The Coronavirus?
Copper has received a lot of attention recently in light of the global pandemic and copper’s natural antimicrobial and antiviral qualities. In light of this, we thought it would be a good idea to write a blog post directly talking about the recent scientific studies relating to copper and the coronavirus. What are the claimed and verified benefits? Can copper destroy or kill the coronavirus? Can copper water stop you from getting Covid-19? These are just a few of the questions we are going to discuss in the rest of this article, so please read on for more details.
Time to bust a myth!
Let us begin by busting one of the biggest myths out there…
X Drinking more copper water will prevent or cure you from contracting the coronavirus!!!
👆This statement is not true! There have been no verified studies to back this claim up, so please note that if anyone tells you otherwise, they are wrong, misinformed or lying to you.
Of course, if this statement had been proven true, then I think by now we would have sold millions and millions of Kalsi bottles! 😀 Drinking copper water does, however, support a strong immune system, so an argument could be made that drinking more copper water can contribute towards preventing you developing serious symptoms if you were to contract the virus, but that is more likely to be a contributing factor at best.

So what exactly has been established about copper and covid-19?
There have been several different studies in the past few months, but the main conclusions they all share and what has been most excitingly deduced about copper is that…
✅ Copper surfaces have been proven to actively destabilise coronavirus particles much quicker than other materials.
Study One – The National Institutes of Health
In a recent study, conducted by scientists from the National Institutes Of Health, and published on the 17th March, 2020 in The New England Journal of Medicine. [Click here to read the full article] it was confirmed that the Sars-Cov-2 (the virus responsible for the coronavirus pandemic) could only survive on copper surfaces for up to 4 hours, compared to plastic surfaces, where it was still detected after 72 hours. In this study, the scientists specifically observed the length of time that COVID-19 could survive on various different materials, including aerosols (air particles), plastic, cardboard, stainless steel and copper.
The chart in this section sums up their findings…
The study concluded that the coronavirus could survive in air droplets for up to 3 hours, on copper surfaces for up to 4 hours, while on cardboard it could survive for up to 24 hours. Plastic and stainless steel were the worst materials, where the study showed that the coronavirus could survive for up to 72 hours.

Study Two – Southampton University and Sylatech
Another excellent study that was conduced earlier this year was by Southampton University, on behalf of an engineering business in North Yorkshire called Sylatech. Together they undertook trials on Sylatech’s own copper based alloy called MB1. You can read more about the study here and the results were really impressive!
The scientists concluded that there was a 93.9% reduction rate of the exposed coronavirus (COVID-19) on the copper alloy surface within 5 minutes! Then the virus was completely eliminated within 10 minutes. So, there you can see just how quickly copper gets to work at destroying any bacteria or virus that comes into contact with it.
Conclusion
So, to sum up this blog post, it is clear and important to note that drinking more copper water will not save or cure you from either contracting or developing serious symptoms of Covid-19. However, what has been proven (and something Ayurveda has known for centuries) is that copper has this amazing capability to actively destroy and destabilise all bacteria and viruses, which with no exception also includes particles of the Covid-19 virus. The scientific term used to describe copper’s natural virus-destroying ability is the Oligodynamic Effect. If you would like to know more about copper’s antibacterial qualities, then click here to learn more.
It is also important to note that none of the studies mentioned in this blog have been conducted specifically using our own Kalsi Copper bottles. Indeed, one of the studies was carried out on a patented copper alloy. However, what all these studies do provide is a very recent, updated and fresh reminder to us all that copper can and will actively destroy and destabilise bacteria and virus particles.
So, investing in a copper bottle is a great way to ensure that any bacteria or viruses that comes into contact with your drinking water is actively destabilised and destroyed, keeping your drinking water fresh 24/7.
